On June 6, 2014 at Camp O'Donnell, United Defense Mfg Corp received a Plaque of Recognition from the Philippine Army for its pioneering success in the local manufacture of 5.56mm NATO assault rifles and 7.62mm NATO precision rifles. It was not your usual errand. Several days ago, the head of the security force tasked with protecting President Aquino, toured a small three-storey plant in a Manila suburb that manufactures M4 assault rifles, the standard battle rifle of the US Army.
In April, United Defense Manufacturing Corporation sent a letter inviting Aquino to visit and see what the company could do for the military. In line with his efforts to modernize the armed forces, Aquino forwarded the letter to the Presidential Security Group and ordered them to take a look.
In whatever shape or form the BBL will become, Iqbal and company will accept it for where in the world can they get a deal to be awarded the right to rule with P70 billion pocket money, in lieu of a constitutionally elected body, simply because they have guns to threaten the Government. For this one reason (let alone the others), is it morally right for the President and the Congress to do this?
